Tanzania Volleyball Federation (TVF) traces its roots to the official registration on May 19, 1972. This marked the formal recognition of volleyball as a sport in Tanzania, even though it had already gained popularity in the country.
In August 1973, the inaugural assembly of TVF took place at the Kigurunyembe Teachers' College in Morogoro. The late Novati Rutageruka served as the first Chairman of the association, contributing significantly to its initial development and growth.
Tanzania made a historic mark in 1979 when its national volleyball team reached the finals of the African Championship held in Benghazi, Libya. This achievement resulted from a victory in the sixth-zone qualifiers in Kitwe, Zambia.
In early 1982, TVF affiliated with the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), solidifying its presence on the international stage. Formal confirmation of this affiliation took place in 1984 in Tokyo, Japan.
TVF made its debut in the FIVB conference in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1986, signaling its active participation in global volleyball.
Towards the end of the 1980s, TVF gained substantial popularity by efficiently managing competitions like the Bonite Cup and KLM tournaments. These events not only showcased local talent but also attracted foreign teams from neighboring countries.
In 1987, the association conducted its first training course with instructor Nick Moody from Scotland, marking a significant step in developing volleyball expertise in Tanzania. TVF has since played a pivotal role in training professionals both nationally and internationally.
Tanzania produced its first international referees under FIVB, Alfred Selengia and Lilian Agapa. Additionally, Mr. Alfred Selengia holds the title of "CAVB Coaches Instructor" for indoor and beach volleyball in Africa. Several Tanzanian players have also achieved international recognition. These notable individuals in this include:
1. Jackson Mmari, who plays for ETV in Germany.
2. Omary Bure, who is currently contributing his talents to Rukinzo Volleyball Club in Burundi.
In 2018, the Tanzanian women's beach volleyball team under 18 emerged as champions in the fifth zone, securing the fifth position in the African continent's competition held in Cairo, Egypt. The men's beach volleyball team achieved victory in 2019, qualifying for the African Olympic Games of 2022 in Tokyo, Japan.
In September 2023, The Men's National Team, Almasi Kings, competed in Men African Nations Championship, hosted by CAVB in Cairo, Egypt. The Tournament ended with Almasi Kings grabbing the 13th position.
Tanzania Volleyball Federation has been led by esteemed individuals, including Novati Rutageruka, Major General Roland Makunda, Major General (Rtd) Patrick Peter Mlowezi, and currently Eng. Magoti Mtani.
TVF has held general elections in accordance with its constitution on 22/12/2021. The election formed an executive committee that will serve for four years (2021-2025).

Shirikisho la Mpira wa Wavu Tanzania (TVF) limetangaza kalenda yake kamili ya shughuli za mwaka 2026, ikiwa na zaidi ya mashindano 25 ya kitaifa na kimataifa. Kalenda hiyo inajumuisha Ligi ya Taifa (TVNL), Kombe la Taifa, Bingwa wa Afrika kwa wanawake na wanaume, mashindano ya vijana, na shughuli nyingine zinazoendelea katika miji mbalimbali ikiwemo Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Mwanza, na Zanzibar. Pakua kalenda ili usikose tukio lolote la mpira wa wavu mwaka huu.
TVF imetoa matokeo ya uchunguzi wa sifa za wagombea wa uongozi ambapo baadhi wamepitishwa na wengine wamekatwa. Kamati imetoa utaratibu wa pingamizi na rufaa kwa mujibu wa Kanuni za Uchaguzi.
TVF imetangaza uchaguzi mkuu utakaofanyika tarehe 21 Desemba 2025 jijini Dodoma. Fomu zinapatikana kuanzia tarehe 10 Novemba hadi 24 Novemba 2025 kupitia tovuti ya TVF. Wadau wote wa mpira wa wavu wanahimizwa kushiriki kwa kuchukua na kurejesha fomu kwa wakati.
